I am delighted to have your child enrolled in my English III class this year. Whether standard or honors, English III gives students enrichment and skills in reading, thinking, and writing that will give students a better chance to be successful beyond our school and will foster a lifelong learning relationship with books and the world of ideas.
The focus areas of English III are composition, literary study, and independent reading. In composition, students will be preparing for the Tennessee Writing Assessment in addition to writing for other purposes. Our literature study will center on the chronological study of American literature beginning with Native American and exploration literature and concluding with twentieth century literature. We will also be doing independent reading projects throughout the year.
Our working together as a team with your child will help to ensure his or her success. I hope that this course will provide each student with a sense of accomplishment and strong preparation for Senior English and his or pursuits beyond high school.
